Halloween has never been one of my
favorite holidays. I'm not into anything scary so that is probably
why. However, I love to decorate for every holiday so Halloween
décor it is! This year Zoe was a “Jailbird” for her school
parade on Friday. (Mommy just threw on a sweater and a cute headband
for work) And for the actual Trick-or-Treating, she went as a
skeleton.
Friday, her school was having a Haunted
Hallway and you're not aloud to attend unless you're in 5th
grade so it was a HUGE deal to her. It's put on by the 6th
graders, which means next year Zoe will be the one scaring the kids.
It's also not open to the public. Only open to the kids that attend
her school which is nice because they all know each other. Parents
are aloud to go too so, I jumped in line with Zoe and we held hands
the entire way through. We got startled a few times so, I'd have to
say it was pretty good considering it was an Elementary school. I
cannot wait until Zoe gets to do it next year! It was also secretly
cool that she held my hand the whole time (even in front of her
friends! --- shhhhh!)
Saturday night, was a big night of
friends, candy, and knocking on doors. This year the kids wanted to
venture off without all the parents 'tagging along' with them. Zoe and Stephen (the
oldest of the bunch) had cell phones and there were 2 parents with
them, instead of the regular 5 or 6. All the kids came to our house
for dinner before hitting the streets and putting on the finishing
touches of the costumes. By the time they were ready to head out,
they had to listen to the 'Safety Speech' ONE MORE TIME! It was
pretty cold so I wasn't sure how long they were going to last but
they made it. We had the firepit going to take the chill off, and sat
and chatted while the kids made the rounds. We could pretty much
hear them all through the neighborhood, and they picked up a few
other kids along the way. By the time they came back, there were
about 9-10 kids with WAY too much candy. The parents grabbed the
candy bags, and the kids played tag, and ran around for a while to
get some of that energy out. By 9pm, they (we) were all running on
empty. It was time to call it a night.
We emptied Zoe's candy on the table,
told her to pick out 10 pieces, handed her over $10 and called it a
night. I don't think she will ever not go Trick-or-Treating but at
the end of the day, no child needs that amount of candy. She doesn't
like giving up the candy, but she's at the age where the $10 makes it
a whole lot easier decision... Legos anyone?!
We hope everyone had a safe and
wonderful Halloween!
