Dearest Zoe, Today is your special day. I can’t believe we are celebrating another year of what was by far the best day of my life, the day we stood in front of the judge and told him how blessed we are to become YOUR parents. A day I will never forget and a day I think about often. I know you’re still a little too young to fully understand the depth of this day but, I know one day you will understand just how special this day is. It’s a day we will celebrate for the rest of our lives. Being your mom means more than I could ever verbalize. From the second I laid eyes on you, I was instantly in love with you. I am so proud to be your mommy. You’re an amazing daughter, so full of life and laughter. Not only have you touched our lives, but the lives of so many. This day several years ago, when we went to court, I was a mess. My stomach was in knots, but I was so excited. In the courtroom with Mimi and I was, Mamaw, Pop Pop, and Aunt Lala, also, our lawyer, the judge, and a few clerks. It was as if time had stopped. The judge was speaking but, I don’t remember a word he said other than, “Congratulations, you’re daughter is beautiful.” I just looked around and everything felt like a dream – a dream that came true! I know I didn’t give birth to you however, I feel as though I did. We are so much a like and have such a strong bond. You’re my world and I wouldn’t have it any other way. There are so many things I cannot wait to share with you. I always get a chuckle out of Mamaw and Nana telling me how much you and I are alike. You and I are not only independent girls but we’ve got the sass to go with it! I can’t blame the sassiness on Mimi. That is all you, and me kid! Everyday I look at you; I thank God for bringing you to me. The day I became your mom, I promised to love and care for you. Wow, that was the easy part. But the hard part is watching you grow up so fast. You’re getting so big and so independent. Every day you’re in my life is special, but today is the anniversary of the MOST special day in my life. I love with you with all my heart and soul and you will always be my baby girl! Love, Mommy
Zoe, Mimi here..I can say that Mommy is 100% right about you being the best thing that has ever happened. I am far from perfect, but I can say the most perfect thing I’ve ever done in my life was being lucky enough to have adopted you. I love you more than words could ever explain, and I hope I can always give you the best life has to offer. You are the reason I wake up in the morning. I can remember sitting by your bassinet when you were just weeks old, I would set up my computer and work right next to you so I could hear you breathing. Now, even though you’re a ‘big’ girl at 5, I still go into your room every night before I go to bed just to hear you breathing, wondering what you’re dreaming about. Mommy and I will always be there to help make your dreams come true, and help pick up and make you feel better when they don’t. Happy Adoption day Zoe, I love you so much - Mimi
