Special Delivery
Zoe got a super special delivery today in the mail from her
Grammy & Granddad. It was a
really cool book full of horses.
Not just any horses, but PAINTED ones! The historical society put together a fundraiser and had
local artists paint horses. Now
the horses are going to go on tour to be seen all over.
But wait, that’s not all! Not only did Zoe get the book displaying all the horses, but
she also had the artist’s signature for each of the horses they painted. And some of the signatures even had
special messages just for Zoe!
The book is beautiful, and very special, many thanks to
Grammy and Granddad.

Crazy Day
This
morning Shelli had surgery to get the IVC filter removed. We had to
be at the hospital at 7:30am. Trying to get Zoe up, dressed, and out the door
is always a struggle, and that's a normal day, nonetheless at 6:00am.
Shelli was quiet, which always means she is nervous. After what she went
through in April, I don’t blame her for not wanting to hang out in the hospital
- again. We got to the hospital and got Mimi checked in then we waited with her
until it was time for Zoe to go to school. Zoe got emotional leaving the
hospital I think it reminded her of the last time we were there. I explained to
her that this was nothing like the last time and that Mimi would be home by the
time she got home from school.
Today was my
last time being ‘classroom mom’ for the year so when we got to school Zoe and I
walked to class and I did my duties. I would be retuning at noon for her end of
the year party. At noon, as I was walking out of the door back to school, the
nurse called and said everything went well and Shelli was in recovery and
sleeping due to the anesthesia. She said that I could come anytime after 1:30pm
to pick her up.
I ran
back to school to partake in Zoe’s end of the year party. I had to chuckle
when I heard, "Hi Zoe's Mom!"...that never gets old,
and always puts a smile on my face (even when I feel like everything else
around me is out of sorts). The kids made sundaes and then made t-shirts that
they all got to sign. I said my goodbyes to all the 1st graders
that I’ve grown to love over the year and got a sweet card from Zoe’s teacher
thanking me for all my help throughout the year. As the kids were running
around the class, it hit me… My 'baby'
is going to be in 2nd grade next year. This year flew by and I was
so grateful to have had the time to work in her classroom and lunchroom. Let’s
face it, in a couple years she isn’t going to want her mommy volunteering at
school!
Once
I left school, I headed right over to Shelli. When I got there she was sleeping
and I could tell she was a bit out of it. The doctor came in and explained how
everything went and we were able to leave shortly after. I was relieved!
Shelli was told to take it easy for a couple days, and then she would
be back to normal with the exception of the
daily Coumadin. But we're hoping that will go away soon enough as
well. It’s been a tough few months for Shelli but she is one
tough chick. We will never forget those 10 days we spent in Connecticut!
Despite all the chaos, tears, worries, and sleepless nights thankfully, it all
worked out.
After
dinner, Shelli was still pretty out of it. I made sure she had everything
she needed and then we headed out for one more event… Jaylyn’s graduation from
Pre-K. Congrats J! We are so proud of you! Zoe couldn’t sit still the whole
time. She was waving to J while she was on stage and giving her the ‘thumbs
up’. It was adorable. Once the ceremony was over, Zoe couldn’t wait to hug J
and tell her how proud she was of her. There is an age difference between the
girls but Zoe still wants to be the one to show J the way. The whole thing was
probably about an hour and after they had cake and juice. The kids were all so
very cute!
It’s been a
day of non-stop action to say the least. I think we are all looking forward to
getting back into a routine. Shelli is going back to work and Zoe will be done
with school Friday and I’m looking forward to a fun filled summer.

BFF Zoo Trip
After a relaxing day, it was back to the one thing that I
love most about life… My girl.
We’ve been to most of the local Zoo’s in the area but today we
hopped in the car and headed out to the last zoo in the area that we’ve not visited.
I packed Z & J a lunch, picked up Dana, and off we went.
As soon as we got to the Zoo and in line, a dark cloud
rolled over and it started raining. I looked at Dana and said, “We didn’t just
drive an hour to turn around, and we’re taking the girls to the Zoo!” We walked, I mean RAN back to the car
to discuss a plan of action. I grabbed the umbrella and said, “Let’s do this!” Luckily
the rain finished up a few minutes later, and the rest of the time it was overcast,
but dry. The Zoo was fairly small, and the girls ran through it in about an
hour. Both of them had a different favorite animal. J was all about the
kangaroo and Zoe loved the owl.
It wasn’t a big Zoo and certainly wasn’t worth the hour’s drive. But the girls had a fun day together
and that’s all that matters.

Mommy Time
Words cannot begin to verbalize how much in need I was of a
‘day off’. The past two months have flown by between doctor appointments for
Shelli, Zoe’s activities, and just keeping up with everyday life.
I was in need of some quiet time. I checked into a hotel
Saturday morning and spent the night – SOLO! It was simply perfect. I laid out
by the pool, read trash magazines, ate junk food, napped, took a hot bath, and
even did a little shopping (for things I didn’t need but thought I deserved!)
Who doesn’t need one of these days, right? It felt like a
dream that I wasn’t ready to wake up from yet. I wish I could have stayed a
week but, duty calls and no matter how much I need time away sometimes, I
always look forward to coming home.
