The calm before the storm....

As we prepared for Hurricane Sandy the kids were getting stir crazy thinking they would be stuck indoors for a few days. We decided to take a trip over to Crayola Factory. The girls spent hours doing cool art projects, playing with clay, coloring, chalk art, and even learned how crayons were made. Zoe has been before but it was Jaylyn's first time. Zoe said she didn't remember most of the factory, in her words, " I only remembered half of the crayon place." It was pretty empty (due to the upcoming storm) which made it all the better for us.

Now it's time to get serious about this huge storm heading our way...
It's supposed to come ashore Monday afternoon, and we're about as ready as we can be!

Mimi & Zoe day...

Shelli was out of town on business and Zoe was due some one on one time with her Mimi. Shelli and Zoe enjoyed a day out which included a movie, lunch, and a stop at the their favorite coffee shop. Zoe has this new love for Italian sodas and the coffee shop they go to has several different kinds.
The girls had a great day together!

Today when Zoe got home from school she had a package from Grammy and Granddad. Enclosed were the the coolest and newest house slippers on the market. Zoe has had her eye on these since she saw the commercial about a month ago. They are adorable and she hasn't taken them off since the second she put them on. I think mommy wants a pair too!!!

Shawn's Birthday

After the pumpkin patch, Zoe rushed over to Shawn’s 8th birthday party. The kids played outside, had horse rides around the yard, ate pizza, and had homemade cupcakes made by Shawn’s dads. By the time we got home, Zoe was ready to crash for the night. We had a busy day!!!

Pumpkin Patch

This year we decided to check out a new pumpkin patch and I’m sure glad we did. They not only had a cool hayride out to the pumpkin patch but they also had a corn maze, several farm animals, bounce houses, and a children’s rope maze that Zoe ran through leaving mommy behind in the dust!
Fall is certainly in the air and it’s my most favorite time of the year.  In addition to all the fun activities, the farm had the most beautiful mums, pumpkins, and gourds I’ve ever seen.  We are doing a couple of different pumpkins this year, and Zoe picked some gorgeous pumpkins.  Of course Zoe wanted to pick more pumpkins to ‘carve’, but I know she has ulterior motives.  Shelli always roasts the seeds for Zoe after the pumpkins are carved, so I’m sure that was her primary motivation.

Katy Perrcrow

I am proud to announce that Katy Perrcrow has a new home on Main Street. Zoe couldn't be more excited to see Katy attached to a lamp post on Main street for the whole town to see. We were able to check out all the other scarecrows today on our way home from school. Lots of cute ones!!!

Candy Apples

'Tis the season for everything apples. I decided to make candy apples. I'd never made them before however, I think they came out pretty good for being my first time. Zoe sure loved them!

* I had to remind Z that this was a special holiday treat!*

Scarecrow

In our local town paper, I noticed an article that read:
“All groups, families, scouts, and individuals, are encouraged to build a scarecrow. We will provide frames, bags for heads, and straw for stuffing. You provide the creativity. Pick up your supplies at the Borough Hall and return your finished scarecrow any time on Monday, October 15th. Let your imagination run wild! Our public works department will install the scarecrows on the street light poles on Main Street in time for Halloween. “

Here is our CRAZY entry....

Fall Hiking

Fall is my most favorite time of the year to go hiking. The weather is cool and the leaves are changing, it's a win- win! My plan is to try and hike at least one day a weekend until it gets too cold.
Today, we took a little drive to Hawk Mountain. It’s about an hour and a half north so the trees were just a tad more turned than at home, boy was it beautiful. It was one of the more challenging hikes we’ve done but it was breathtaking, it was along a mountain ridge, and I would have to say it was a cross between hiking and rock climbing. Zoe was ecstatic to be able to climb up, down, and around all the boulders.
The park was unique because it was a bird sanctuary, and Fall is when the migratory birds are plentiful for viewing.  When we went to check-in I noticed there were spotting “score cards” for kids. All the different birds that could be seen at the lookout points were on the card so the kids are able to keep track of what they see and how many they saw. Zoe had her card secure in her front pocket as she kept her eyes peeled for all the different birds. We also saw a few chipmunks and some amazing views along the mountain ridge.

We're looking forward to going back and checking out some of the longer trails that go down into the valley.

Frozen Yogurt

Frozen yogurt (also spelled frozen yoghurt; also known by the tradenames Frogurt and FroYo) is a frozen dessert made with the cultured, fermented milk product called yogurt and sometimes other dairy products. It varies from slightly to much more tart than ice cream, as well as being lower in fat (due to the use of milk instead of cream). It differs from ice milk (more recently termed low-fat or light ice cream) or conventional soft serve, both of which do not include yogurt as an ingredient.
